Pantone Color of the Year: Greenery

February 2, 2017 by Wright Outdoor Solutions

The new year welcomes a lot of new things – aspiring resolutions, fresh outlooks, and a renewed perspective. And let’s not forget Pantone’s Color of the Year!

Each year, the Pantone Color Institute chooses the Color of the Year, capturing the current cultural mood and attitude. Pantone’s first color of the year was released in 2000. To make the color selection, they go through a nine-month process, and, as we expected, it’s based more on instinct than on science.

2017’s Pantone Color of the Year is Greenery. Pantone points out that as the public becomes more immersed in modern life, people naturally crave the colors found in the outdoors and the sense of calm they bring, so Greenery was a perfect fit this year. And we think that Greenery bears a striking resemblance to the Wright Outdoor Solutions signature green in our logo, and we’re loving it!

Here’s how Pantone describes Greenery:

“Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate. Greenery symbolize the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

We at Wright Outdoor Solutions think that Greenery is a perfect ode to our industry and all the plant lovers out there. Greenery is flexible as well, offering opportunities to mix it with bold shades, earthy tones, or even metallics. There are unlimited ways to incorporate Greenery into your indoor and outdoor spaces this year – here are some ideas:

And it’s not the first time that Pantone drew inspiration for their color choice from the surrounding environment. 2011 was Honeysuckle, 2012 was Tangerine Tango, 2013 was Emerald Green and 2014 was Radiant Orchid – all colors that stem from nature.

Going Beyond Botanical

There are obvious connections between our green industry and this year’s color of the year, but there are other industries that will take advantage of all that Greenery offers. Greenery can be incorporated into your home décor, your spring wardrobe, an upcoming wedding – the possibilities are endless.

We hope that Greenery will inspire you to incorporate fresh color into your space as we gear up for spring. When the cold and blustery winter weather fades away and spring has sprung, the early green blooms start to appear, signaling new life, energy and progress. Speaking of spring… the countdown is on. Spring officially touches down on March 20! Are you ready?
