While studying anthropology and comparative religion, Seth Hansen opted to take a career aptitude test and learned landscaping was calling his name. Far from the path he was pursuing, he finished his double major and received a Bachelor of Arts in both studies and dabbled in a few careers before eventually finding himself called back to landscape design. He enrolled in the horticulture program at Kirkwood Community College in 2012, gaining hands-on experience along the way as a greenhouse lab technician.
Since graduating in 2014 with an associate degree in landscape design, Seth has been creating beautiful and functional outdoor living spaces. By working with clients to learn their story and desired function of the space, Seth brings outdoor environments to life, taking into consideration traffic flow, intended use of the space and scale, as well as color and textural patterns. Hardscape projects are a true passion of Seth’s, especially when he has the opportunity to work with elevation changes by adding stairs, seat walls and different sections within the hardscape. To add additional dimension, Seth likes to bring in an assortment of textures and color to add contrast, playing with both light and dark shades.
When not at work, Seth can be found hitting the trails for a run or bike ride, as well as writing music. As a lifelong Iowan, Seth has always been called to the Midwestern beauty and really likes bur oak. The light and shadows that play around the leaves and branches of large bur oaks are reminders of the subtle beauty of Iowa’s landscape.
