If you’ve ever visited our Garden Center, you may have met our lovable, furry mascot Ted. For those new to our Garden Center, you must know that he is kind of a big deal! Ted is our four-legged mascot who loves to nap in the summer rays, greet guests and occasionally take a swim in the pond out back. In honor of our Garden Center opening, The Dirt sat down with Ted so that all of you out there could learn a bit more about the dog behind the fur.
What is your full name?
Ted-E-Bear – the “E” stands for Einstein and Extraordinaire – take your pick!
Do you have any fun nicknames?
Snuggle Puggle, Buddy, and Super Ted (my superhero name).
When is your birthday?
May 9, 2008.
Where are you originally from?
I’m a southern Missouri native. I go back twice a year for Puggle reunions!
How long have you held the position of mascot at the Garden Center?
I started coming 2011, and I’ve been a regular ever since.
When is the best time to catch you at the Garden Center?
I am here most days. The only exception is when I refuse to get out of bed in the morning, which happens on occasion.
What are your favorite things to do at the Garden Center?
I love to start my mornings by chasing bunnies and flushing out mice around the grounds. If the tractor is out working on the gravel, I go for a run alongside to keep up my physique. Then, I make my rounds through the Garden Center to greet guests and see if I can help with anything. I always make sure to wander into the office to check on staff as well and see if they brought extras for me at lunch time. And I never forget to squeeze in my nap under the heat of the sun. Nothing recharges a tired pup like the warm glow of an Iowa sun, especially when followed up with a swim in the pond out back. I might share a trick or two with staff or guests, but only if treats are involved. When the day is done, I head home with my mom and rest up for another full day of work.
Do you have a favorite plant or tree?
I love the junipers and boxwoods, as furry animals tend to hang out in both.
What is your favorite treat?
Paws down, it’s Beggin’ Strips!
