Each year, Punxsutawney Phil, a famous (and often infamous) groundhog emerges from his burrow to determine whether spring will come early or if there will be six more weeks of winter. Phil saw his shadow Monday morning, meaning we’re in for six more weeks of snow, ice and blustery conditions. This prediction comes at a fitting time, given that the Des Moines area received a foot of snow in some areas this past weekend.

However, this doesn’t mean you should stop planning for spring! Warm weather and green grass will be here before we know it, and there’s plenty to do while we wait.

Now is the ideal time to get inspired about the upcoming season and start thinking about what you’d like to incorporate into your landscape projects. Check out our Idea Book, where you’ll find unique ways to make your outdoor space everything you’ve been dreaming of!

Plants
There’s a perfect plant for every part of your landscape – even for tough spots that are wet, dry, shady, north facing, or prone to deer and rabbit damage. The right plants will accentuate your home’s architecture and add aesthetic value to your property.

Mixed Materials
Break away from tradition and create a distinctive space using mixed materials. Patio, wall, and edging materials continue to advance, and incorporating natural and man-made materials into your landscape is easier than ever before. Combine outcroppings with concrete pavers or boulder walls with concrete stops. The possibilities are endless!

Outdoor Rooms
Redefine luxury and create the getaway of your dreams in your own backyard. An outdoor room, complete with a bench, a pergola, or even a full kitchen, is the perfect place to entertain and relax in style!
