Project Spotlight: Adding Beauty To The Iowa State Fair

Wright Outdoor Solutions is excited to once again partner with the iconic Iowa State Fair, which runs August 11-21 this year. As a business with a long-standing history in central Iowa, we look for opportunities to give back and be involved with the community we serve. (Read our previous post about the installation we did for the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation fundraiser). This year, we were asked to design and install two separate projects for the fairgrounds, and we’d love to share the work that we did with you!

Projects for the Iowa State Fair must be robust and have the ability to stand up to lots of direct sun and the scorching temperatures of August in Iowa. In addition, any hardscaping needs to be extremely durable, withstanding the anticipated one million people who will visit in just 11 days. Account Manager Dennis Wilson managed this year’s Iowa State Fair installation, and weighs in on the details…

Containers

We put together dozens of containers for the fairgrounds this year, incorporating different colors and plant types so that there was variety and interest throughout. You’ll find geraniums paired with ornamental grasses and creeping Jenny, and a couple steps away you’ll find another container with sweet potato vines, impatiens, and more ornamental grasses.

Hardscaping

The hardscaping we installed on the Iowa State Fair was designed to fit the personality of the event. We’ve done this installation for a few years now, installing plant material and hardscaping to give dimension, texture and visual interest to those near the Blue Ribbon Foundation tent area. We think it’s a great addition and complements the space nicely.
